Handling and Transportation

During assembly and disassembly, Arago must be handled by at least 2 authorised persons. Elements of the system must not be forced while handling.

During transportation, the case must be positioned in the upright position, 6 latches and 3 wheel breaks must be fully locked.

Mounting Camera

Arago comes with a single camera mounting bracket and 2 mounting plates for equipment such as additional cameras or lights. The size of the equipment must permit free motion of the Tilt and Y elements and not located beyond the horizontal and vertical bounds of the Tilt element.

WARNING
The total weight of the equipment mounted on the tilt-head of Arago should not exceed 10 KG or 22 Pounds. More weight can lead to damaging the product and create hazardous motion.

1. Mount Bracket

Mount the provided bracket onto the bottom camera using the mount thread. Make sure to insert the SD card and battery (or battery adapter) prior to mounting the bracket.

2. Mount Camera

Attach the camera to the base plate and secure the bracket by turning the large knob clockwise. Ensure the bracket is completely inserted into the base plate and positioned correctly. Assess the stability of the setup before letting go of the camera.

3. Orient Camera

Make sure the camera is pointing straight forward. Use the small knob of the base plate to allow camera panning. Release the knob by rotating it counter-clockwise and when forward orientation is achieved, tighten it by rotating clockwise.

4. Connect Cables

Connect the USB and Trigger cables between the camera and the port panel behind the Tilt head element. The order or placement of ports doesn’t matter. The trigger jack cable is necessary for triggering the camera while the usb cable is essential for Camera Tethering Support.

5. Position Camera

Position the camera roughly in the center of the Tilt (T) head rail by releasing the knob in the back of the plate and sliding it. The accurate position of the camera in space will be calculated during the Camera Calibration and Posing step in Arago Control.

Multiple Cameras

Arago can carry and connect to up to 3 cameras simultaneously. To install aditional cameras, the same five steps presented in this article should be followed.

When tethering to more cameras, you will need to specify in the Camera Tethering Support panel which camera acts as your primary camera. Read more about the Multi-Cam Support in Arago Control.

Mounting Powered Accessories

In this example, we use an external power adapter for a DSLR camera. Here is a guick 5-step guide on how to install the accessory:

1. Connect Cable

Connect the cable to the power extender located at the base of the vertical (Y) axis. Make sure that the connected device matches the specifications of the power extender (110-240 V AC & MAX 2000W).

2. Open Cable Chain

Unlock the cable chain positioned over the power extender by disengaging the joints. The most convenient method is to utilize a small screwdriver.

3. Pass Cable Through

Pass the cable through the cable chain and lock the joints by clicking them back in.

4. Use the Tray

Optionally, place the excess cable, power adapter or similar items into the tray at the exit of the cable chain.

5. Pass Cable to Tilt

Pass the cable through a top back cutout of the Til head and pull it forward through a round cutout in front as illustrated. Secure the cable in place with velcro strips.

Now the adapter can be connected to the camera.

Once done, make sure there are no hanging cables that can obstruct the motion of Arago.

The main large compartment of the case houses the device, which is composed of two parts securely mounted together:

Main Arago module, also refered to as X, Y, T locomotion axes.
Turntable Arago module, also refered to as Z, R locomotion axes.

Cables & Accessories

Cables

To ensure Arago operates properly, it is essential to securely connect five individual cables before powering it on. All necessary cables can be found in the smaller compartment of the transportation case.

Included components:

LAN connection cable
USB 3.0 connection cable
AC input power cables (2pcs.)
Turntable D-sub cable (20cm)
Turntable D-sub cable (200cm)

Accessories

In addition to cables, the small compartment of the transporation case will also include the following:

Calibration board (1pc). This item is required for the Camera Calibration and Posing workflow.
Turntable marker plate (2pcs.). A round plastic plate with various ArUco markers attachable to the turntable.
Allen key set. Hex keys are used for mounting turntable extensions or the calibration board.
Panorama head (1pc). Already installed on the Arago tilt (T) component, this item allows you to install and lock the camera on the device securely.

Transportation Case

The case includes an easy-accessible compartment containing accessories and optional components. The size of the compartment permits transportation of additional equipment.

Turntable Extension

Arago Assembly

Below is a 10-step guide outlining the process of assembling Arago after removing it from the transportation box.

1. Unlock Latches

Unlock all four latches at the back of the unit to separate the individual components.

2. Release Two Knobs

Release the two knobs located in the back sides of the unit by rotating them counterclockwise.

3. Lift Arago in Upright Position

Fully elevate the vertical (Y) component by the top handle located in the back of the unit as illustrated.

4. Tighten Knobs

Fully tighten the two knobs from the previous step by rotating them clockwise. This secures the Y vertical component in place.

5. Release Four Knobs

Loosen the four knobs on the payload (T – tilt) component, with two on each side of the unit. Turn the knobs counterclockwise to release, but do not completely unscrew them from the unit.

6. Elevate Tilt

Using the designated cutouts on each side, fully lift the T component as shown. While keeping the T component elevated, gently pull it towards you and then lower it until it is secured in a horizontal position.

7. Tighten Four Knobs

Rotate the four knobs clockwise to fully tighten them, securing the T component in place.

8. Lift Turntable

Using the dedicated handles on either side, lift the turntable (Z) component from the back of the unit and position it in front. Align the two ball catchers/silver joints on the sides of the turntable (Z) and horizontal (X) components, and click them together.

9. Connect Turntable

Link the horizontal (X) and turntable (Z) components using the supplied D-sub (20cm) cable. The orientation of the cable doesn’t matter. After inserting the connector fully on both ends, press the small metal lock on the side outward to secure the connection.

10. Connect Cables

Connect the following four provided cables at the back of the unit:

LAN data cable
USB data cable
Power cable – Arago in
Power cable – Arago built-in Power Extender

Observe the indication labels on the port panel of the unit to ensure correct connections. If you’re not utilizing the mounted power outlets (x3) located on the lower part of the system, cable (4) can be skipped.

WARNING
Arago must be used only with provided original cables and have a secure grounded connection. Misuse can lead to damaging the device.

Unboxing Arago

Please follow these steps to remove Arago from the transportation case:

1. Make sure the case is placed on an even solid surface that can withstand weight.

2. Make sure that all 6 wheel brakes are locked.

3. Release the locks of all 6 latches positioned on the sides of the case.

4. Lift the top lid

of the transportation case by the handles located on the front and the back sides of the case. Do not use the handles on the long sides.

It is important that the lid is lifted straight upwards and not at an angle. Don’t use force while opening the case. Place the lid on the ground.

5. Remove Arago from the case.

Decide beforehand which side of the case the unit will be laid down after you take it out. Make sure there are no obstructions on the ground surface.

Lifting the Arago unit out of the case must be performed by two authorised persons. The unit must be lifted from the box only by the designated handles at the ends of the system as illustrated.
Due to the weight of the unit, it is necessary for operators to keep their back straight and lift simultaneously.
As soon as the unit is lifted out of the case, step to the side and place the unit on the ground next to the case.
